What Sage publishes about Sage X3 pricing

Bar chart of three year cost for a 120 person plant with 25 users including implementation. Sage X3 600,000 USD at 500 USD a user a month, 255,000 USD at 200 USD, 225,000 USD for a partner sample subscription of 25,000 USD a year with 150,000 USD services, 185,000 USD at 150 USD, against ProductionPlanning.ai Group 23,220 USD and Plant 7,722 USD

Nothing with a dollar sign. Sage sells X3 through its partner network, and every quote is built from the modules you need, the number of users by role, how you deploy it and how much the partner has to configure. G2 says Sage has not provided pricing information. So the numbers below come from partners and analyst sites that track quotes, and they disagree with each other.

Three things are fixed and worth knowing before the first call. Sage X3 comes in cumulative bundles: Financials, then Distribution, which includes Financials, then Manufacturing, which includes both. Licensing is by concurrent user and role, and RKL eSolutions, a Sage partner, notes that X3 allows unlimited named users, with roles that need less functionality priced lower. And you can run it on premise or in a hosted cloud, which changes the price as much as the user count does.

The Sage X3 price estimates you will find online

Source Subscription Perpetual license Implementation
RKL eSolutions, Sage partner From 25,000 USD a year for a 5 full user manufacturing bundle, on premise Not listed Services from 150,000 USD, total 200,000 to 300,000 USD
ERP Research 200 to 500 USD per named user a month in the cloud, from 25,000 to 35,000 USD a year for a small setup 3,000 to 5,000 USD per named user, plus 18 to 20 percent a year maintenance 75,000 to 150,000 USD for 10 to 20 users, 250,000 to 750,000 USD for complex projects
Spendbase 80 to 120 USD per user a month for Distribution, 100 to 150 USD for Process Manufacturing Not listed 50,000 to 300,000 USD
G2 No price published by the vendor Not listed Not listed

Figures as listed by each source. None is a Sage quote. ERP Research also says X3 is typically two to three times the per user cost of SAP Business One.

The spread is wide because the sources measure different things. Spendbase's per user range looks like the lighter Distribution and Process editions. ERP Research quotes a named user in the cloud with hosting folded in. RKL's sample is a concurrent manufacturing bundle running on your own servers. Ask which of the three your quote is before you compare it with anything.

What actually moves a Sage X3 quote

  • The bundle. Manufacturing costs more than Distribution, which costs more than Financials, because each one carries the one below it
  • Concurrent users by role. A planner who runs MRP needs a fuller role than a supervisor who only reports production, and the mix sets the price
  • Cloud or on premise. A hosted subscription folds in servers and upgrades. On premise needs your own hardware, SQL Server licensing and IT time
  • Partner services. Configuration, data migration, reports and training are billed by the partner by the hour or as a fixed project, and this is usually the biggest line in year one
  • Add-ons. Many X3 sites buy third party products for EDI, advanced scheduling, quality or shop floor data collection, each with its own license
  • Contract length and renewal terms, which decide what year four costs

What Sage X3 costs a 120 person plant over three years, worked through

Take a make to order plant with 120 people, 25 concurrent users across finance, purchasing, sales and planning, one site, Manufacturing bundle.

Scenario Software over three years Implementation Three year total
Cloud at the high estimate, 25 users at 500 USD a month 450,000 USD 150,000 USD 600,000 USD
Cloud at the low estimate, 25 users at 200 USD a month 180,000 USD 75,000 USD 255,000 USD
Partner sample, 25,000 USD a year subscription 75,000 USD 150,000 USD 225,000 USD
Lighter edition, 25 users at 150 USD a month 135,000 USD 50,000 USD 185,000 USD
ProductionPlanning.ai Plant, unlimited users 7,722 USD none, spreadsheet import 7,722 USD

The partner sample covers 5 full users, so a 25 user plant on that route pays more than the 225,000 USD shown. Read that row as a floor.

These are not the same purchase. Sage X3 money buys the general ledger, purchasing, inventory, costing, sales orders and MRP. Our money buys a finite capacity schedule with a projected finish date on every order. The comparison matters for one kind of buyer: the plant whose real reason for an ERP project is late orders and a schedule nobody trusts. For that buyer, the schedule can be fixed in a week next to the accounting system already in place, and the ERP decision can wait for a reason of its own.

What to ask on the Sage X3 pricing call

Partners build quotes in their own way, so ask for each of these in writing before you compare two proposals.

  • Is this a cloud subscription or a perpetual license with maintenance, and what is the price in year four?
  • How many concurrent users by role, and what does one more planner or one more supervisor cost?
  • Which bundle is quoted, and which modules on the proposal sit outside it?
  • What are the implementation hours by phase, and what happens when they run over?
  • Which third party add-ons does the plan rely on for scheduling, EDI or quality, and who supports them?
  • What does a version upgrade cost if we run on premise?

If the partner sends a long proposal, it helps to ask questions of the proposal PDF line by line before the review meeting, so the open points are on the table.

Sage X3 pricing questions buyers ask

How much does Sage X3 cost?

Sage X3 costs roughly 150 to 500 USD per user a month in the cloud, or about 25,000 USD a year to start for a small manufacturing bundle, according to partner and analyst estimates. Implementation adds 75,000 to 300,000 USD. A 120 person plant with 25 users should budget roughly 185,000 to 600,000 USD over three years, project included.

How much does Sage X3 cost per user?

Estimates run from 80 to 500 USD per user a month. Spendbase lists 80 to 120 USD for Distribution and 100 to 150 USD for Process Manufacturing, and ERP Research gives 200 to 500 USD per named user in the cloud. A perpetual license is 3,000 to 5,000 USD per named user plus 18 to 20 percent a year maintenance.

Is there a Sage X3 price list?

No public one. Sage sells X3 through partners, and each quote is built from the bundle, the concurrent users by role, the deployment and the partner's services. Some partners run price calculators that give a range after you enter users and modules, but the figure still has to be confirmed in a formal quote.

How much does a Sage X3 implementation cost?

Estimates for a Sage X3 implementation range from 50,000 USD for a light project to 300,000 USD for a typical manufacturing rollout, and more for complex multi site work. RKL eSolutions puts services from 150,000 USD and total implementation at 200,000 to 300,000 USD. ERP Research gives 75,000 to 150,000 USD for 10 to 20 cloud users.

Is Sage X3 too expensive for a small manufacturer?

For a plant under about 50 people it usually is. Year one with implementation usually starts around 75,000 USD, and ERP Research puts X3 at two to three times the per user cost of SAP Business One. Small plants often compare it with Business Central, Acumatica or a lighter MRP, or fix scheduling first.

What is a cheaper alternative to Sage X3?

For a whole ERP, mid market manufacturers compare Sage X3 with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Acumatica, Epicor Kinetic and Infor CloudSuite Industrial. For a plant that needs finite capacity and a late order list without an ERP project, ProductionPlanning.ai costs 149 USD per plant a month on Line or 429 USD on Plant, with unlimited users. Our Business Central manufacturing alternative page shows how the schedule runs next to an existing ERP.

Price the schedule before you price the ERP

If late orders are why you are pricing Sage X3, fix the schedule first. Start on Line at 149 USD a month, or run the demo on a sample week of orders and see your bottleneck today. The manufacturing ERP alternative hub lines up the other systems buyers compare, and the Acumatica alternative covers the other common mid market quote.
